Charles R. Newell
Passed: Wednesday October 4, 2017

Charles R. Newell passed away peacefully in Shadyside Hospital. He was born and raised in Manhattan. He proudly served during the Korean War aboard the destroyer USS Herbert J. Thomas for four years as an electrician and gunner. He graduated from Marietta College with a degree in petroleum engineering. Charley worked for Columbia Gas Company for over 30 years. He was the Industrial Sales Manager in Uniontown for much of his career. Mr. Newell was a member of many organizations during his working career, including the Uniontown Chamber of Commerce, Uniontown Builders Association, Toastmasters International and the Humane Society. In retirement Charley and his wife Ruth travelled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. They enjoyed walking the Mall and socializing in Panera’s. Charley also enjoyed fishing, gardening and wine making. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Ruth, in 2014 and four sisters. Left to cherish Charley’s memory are his son Charles O. (Diane) Newell of Uniontown, PA And Christopher R. (Sandy) Newell of Sterling Heights, MI; sister Joyce Kostelak of Florida; grandchildren Amanda (Rob) Collins and Stacey, Christopher and Riley Newell and great grandchildren Xavina and Nika Collins. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA where friends will be received on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 5 until 8 pm followed by a service celebrating Charley’s life at 8:00 pm with Rev. James Gear officiating. Interment will be private. Military Honors will be accorded by the North Union VFW Post 8543.
