Earl Gillen
Passed: Monday October 8, 2018

Earl V. Gillen, age 89, of Uniontown, PA passed away Monday, October 8, 2018 in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born in Uniontown, PA on February 16, 1929 son of Earl Gillen and Thelma Lucy Gillen. In addition to his parents, Earl is preceded in death by three sisters, Rebecca D. D’Auria, Kathryn Louise Robinson and Mary Ellen Rockwell Earl graduated from North Union High School with the class of 1947 and also served in the U.S. Marine Corp. with the U.S. Occupation forces during World War II in Japan and then served during Korean War. Earl worked as a linesman for West Penn Power for over thirty-five years before his retirement. He a member of Great Bethel Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and an usher. He was a faithful worker with the Shoe Box and Samaritans Purse ministries for all Uniontown Churches and was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. Earl enjoyed building aquariums when his son was growing up. He blessed his family with many home remodeling projects over the years. Earl loved to take his grandsons to the beach and fishing when they were young. Left to cherish Earl’s memory are his loving wife of sixty nine years, Barbara J. Crayton Gillen; a son, Alan Gillen and wife Jayne of Forest, VA; a daughter, Susan Burgess and husband Jeb of Ashburn, VA; two grandsons, Cameron and Trevor Burgess; two brothers, Jerry Gillen and wife, Carolyn of Belle Vernon, PA and James Gillen of Uniontown. Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, PA where the family will receive friends on Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 9:30 until 11:00 a.m. followed by a service celebrating Earl’s life at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. David Rasmussen officiating. Interment will follow will be private. Donations in memory of Earl may be made to the Great Bethel Baptist Church, 47 W. Fayette St, Uniontown, PA 15401.
