Velma Walters
Passed: Tuesday January 22, 2019

Velma M. Walters, age 85, of Smithfield, PA died peacefully, Friday, January 22, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born June 16, 1933 in Mt. Sterling, PA the daughter of John Franklin Grow and Mary McIntire. In addition to her parents, Velma was also preceded in death by her husband Jess Walters; her two sons Asa and Jack Walters and her brothers Cecil, John, Joe, Harry and George Grow, sisters Ruth, Laura, Ada, Mable, Rosie and Freda. She was a Homemaker and took pride in raising her 8 children. Velma enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds, taking care of her grandchildren and she enjoyed doing word search puzzles. Left to cherish Velma’s memory are her five daughters, Bonnie Landman and husband Jim of Smithfield, PA. Wilma Weimer and husband Dan of Oliphant Furnace. Alice Shaffer of Fairchance, PA. Ruth Smalley and husband Tom of Smithfield, PA, Betty Minerd and husband Leon of Smithfield, PA; one son Jerry Walters and wife Alice of Shoaf; thirty grandchildren; fifty seven great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to FERGUSON-BROWNFIELD FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC., 78 Main Street, Smithfield, PA, where friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 until 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM. Visitation will continue on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 10 until 11 AM followed by a service celebrating Velma’s life with Pastor Charles McLaughlin officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Brethren Church Cemetery, Masontown, PA. The family would like to give special thanks to Fayette Homecare and Hospice for their loving care.
