Jimmie McGinnis
Passed: Wednesday July 10, 2019

Jimmie R. McGinnis, 83, of McClellandtown, PA, died Wednesday morning, July 10, 2019 at Cherry Tree Nursing Center, Uniontown, PA after an extended illness. He was born August 15, 1935 in McClellandtown. Jimmie is survived by two brothers: Gene M. McGinnis of McClellandtown, PA, and Wendell H. McGinnis (wife Barbara) of Hopwood, PA. Preceding him in death were his fraternal grandparents, Josiah and Emma Durst McGinnis of McClellandtown, PA; maternal grandparents, Robert and Iola Durst; his parents, Wendell D. McGinnis and Leeola Burke McGinnis of McClellandtown, PA; and his brother, Galen L. McGinnis of Crystal Springs, FL. Jimmie has numerous cousins, including Drs. Nancy and Stephen Prieselac of Hopwood, PA and Darwin Dillinger of Uniontown, PA, who have assisted in his care. Good friend, Jerry Wolfe (and family), also helped in his care. Jimmie graduated from German High School. He then attended California University of PA where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. Following college, he entered the Army where he served in Germany from 1957-58. While serving, he played first chair trumpet in the Army band. He taught at German High School until another opportunity took him to New Mexico. He then got the chance to teach at Southern Colorado University where he obtained a master’s degree in semantics. He continued his education and completed all of his coursework up to his dissertation for his doctorate. He returned home to care for his mother and brother and remained in the area. Arrangements are under the direction of Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home, Uniontown, PA. A graveside service is being held Friday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m. Interment is at Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery, McClellandtown Memories and condolences can be shared with the family at adferguson.com and on the funeral home Facebook page.
