John F. Yukish, age 67, of Uniontown went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 27, 2015 in the Uniontown Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born July 25, 1948 in Uniontown, PA, the son of the now late John A. Yukish and Catherine Gavrich Yukish.
John graduated from South Union High School with the class of 1966 and from Penn State University in 1970 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Russian. John was a branch manger of American General Finance Company for over thirty years before his retirement.
He was a faithful member of the Central Christian Church of Uniontown where he was a member of the chancel choir, participated in the children’s sermons and taught youth club. He was a past president of the congregation, past chairman of the general board, deacon and elder. He was also a charter member of the cancer support group. John was a past president of the Rotary Club of Westover, WV, a member of the Penn State Alumni Association and was an avid Penn State Football Fan.
Left to cherish John’s memory is his loving wife of thirty-nine years Kathleen Berish Yukish; a daughter, Kristen Lewis and husband Jeffrey of Green, OH; a son Adam Yukish and wife Emily of Washington, PA; two grandchildren, Hayden and Jonah Lewis; a sister, Catherine C.Yukish of Pittsburgh and a brother-in-law, Gary Berish of Brentwood, PA.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, PA where family and friends will be received on Sunday from 2 until 4 PM and 6 until 8 PM. Visitation will continue in the Central Christian Church, 23 S. Gallatin Ave., Uniontown on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 10 until 11 AM followed by a service celebrating John’s life at 11 AM with Rev. Heather Simpson officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown.
The family suggests donations be made in John’s memory to the Central Christian Church.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Peracha, Lisa, Kathy and the staff of UPMC Cancer Center in Uniontown for the wonderful care, love and support.
