J. Paul Ansell
Viola Maye Ansell
J. Paul Ansell, age 90, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 14, 2011, in Uniontown, PA.
He was born October 19, 1920, to Louis and Mary Shultz Ansell in Monarch, PA. Paul grew up on the family farm where he learned the value of hard work. He would feed the chickens, gather eggs, milk the cows and deliver milk to customers before school. Even with more chores after school, Paul participated in school plays, clubs and played the violin in the orchestra. Paul graduated in 1939, from Dunbar Township High School as an honor student. His dream was to attend California College and become a mathematics teacher. However, his father died in 1941, and Paul chose to care for his mother and their 136 acre farm. On August 12, 1945, he married Viola Herniman and was dedicated to her for 65 years, until the moment of his passing.
Prior to moving to Uniontown, Paul was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Scottdale, PA. Paul had great love for the Lord, and he taught others how to love and serve through his perfect example. While many thought he was too young to serve, he was ordained an Elder at age 27. He also served as Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Scottdale Choral Society.
In 1962, Paul and Viola purchased Auslanders Wallpaper and Paint Store. His reputation for honesty and integrity made him a successful businessman.
Paul was a dedicated member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church. He shared his gifts and talents by singing in the choir for over 45 years, playing dart ball and serving as the Secretary/Treasurer and teaching Sunday School for many years. He was also active in Redstone Presbytery and was a member of the Ministerial Relations Committee. He served as Clerk of Sessions for a total of 22 years and was Church Treasurer for 24 years, retiring in 2008, at age 87, to care for his wife.
His family mourns his passing and misses him more than words can say. He was the “glue” that held the family together. His wonderful smile is dearly missed, and he greatly enriched the lives of all who knew him. Paul was the quiet strength, the listening ear and the unselfish giver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his 7 siblings, Ruth Pletcher, Gladys Harshman, John, Florence, Ora Jager, Ellis and Howard.
