Elaine S. Smith
Passed: Sunday October 30, 2011

Elaine S. Smith, age 86, of Uniontown passed away Sunday, October 30, 2011 in her home. She was born October 7, 1925 in Baltimore, MD to Walter Hershel Schaefer and Carrie “Blanche” Fritz Schaefer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Smith, who died September 3, 1988. She and her husband John were married for 39 years. She was a graduate of Uniontown Area High School with the class of 1944. Elaine was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and Trustee and helped with many dinners. She was a member of AMVETS Post 103 Auxiliary; American Legion Post 278 Auxiliary; Interfaith Care Givers; Retired Bell Telephone Operators and a member of Beta Sigma Phi since 1947. Elaine and her late husband, John were owners of the Skylark Hotel on Rt. 119, Smithfield, Pa. Elaine is survived by her children, Virginia Grubbs and husband, Timothy of Uniontown, PA and Warren Smith and wife Deborah of Smithfield, PA; Grandchildren, Cynthia Bossart, Michelle Pierce, Ethan, Cara Cellurale, Bethany, Jonathan, Meghan and Kaine, Great-grandchildren, Paige, Madison, Heather, Danielle, Maria, James, Mia and Bailey and sisters, Amy Horby of Dallas, TX, Dora Schaefer Cassety, New York, NY and Dr. Esther Lauer of St. Louis, MO and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home, Inc., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown PA, where the family will receive friends on Thursday, November 3, 2011 2 until 4 PM and 7 until 9 PM and on Friday, November 4, 2011 from 10 until 11 AM. A service celebrating Elaine’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Michael I. Orsted officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ginny Helisek, Nina Gratson, Marcie Sangston (special cousin, Hospice nurse, Diane Humbert and to all the staff at Fayette Home Care.
